Why Take College Prep Piano Lessons?
Almost every music degree program requires piano. A college-level piano course, even the beginning level, can feel daunting if piano isn't your primary instrument. College prep lessons will help you feel more confident and prepared. We can skim through any topics in which you may already be proficient, and spend more time on topics that are newer or more difficult. In some cases, you may be able to pass out of an introductory piano class, although this usually requires prior piano experience.
My Teaching
My style is casual. I like to use humor and keep things light, while also keeping you on track to advance to the next lesson unit. The lesson book will be the primary source of material, which includes exercises, solos, and music theory. We'll discuss your goals, and I can develop a teaching plan specifically for you.
Practicing
Regular practice is an important part of making progress. I know that high school and college students have a lot of commitments - school, work, home, and other activities. While I understand that piano practicing might not be at the top of your priority list, the more you're able to practice, the more progress you'll make. I can design a practice routine that will help you meet your goals, but fulfilling that is up to you.
"Taking lessons with Dave has been one of the best things I've done for my music career. He personalizes lessons based on your individual needs and is not only knowledgeable in piano and music theory, but is a great teacher as well. He prepared me so well for my college theory class and I wouldn't be doing such a great job in that class without his help. Lessons weren't just productive but lots of fun, and Dave is a really great, fun, and amazing teacher!"

"Dave Howland is a professional, fair, and skilled pianist. I would gladly go back to him for more lessons, and I would recommend him to my friends and family."
